Specimen discovered and dentaries collected late in 2009 season, main quarry excavation led by Joseph Hatcher in 2010 Field Season. Samples from a turbulent bentonite layer about 5 cm above the Xiphactinus fossil layer were sent for palynology analysis to an outside laboratory, National Petrographic Services Inc., in Houston Texas. Palynologist Dr. Jeff Stein preformed the lab work and specimen identification as recovered from the bentonite samples. Bisaccate (conifer) pollen undifferentiated Classopollis classoides Chatangiella ditissima Chatangiella granulifera Chatangiella tripartita Chatangiella decorosa Palaeoperidinium pyrophorum Laciniadinium firmum Microdinium ornatum Spinidinium clavus Bentonite Samples studied for palynology from immediately above the Xiphactinus layer were Very Carbonaceous, with common angular dark wood fragments, and lesser amorphous kerogen (small clumps). Mid Campanian (Top H-1 Zone): Boundary Transitional (Mixed?) FAD P. pyrophorum, indicates Base Late Campanian; LAD C. ditissima marks Top Early Campanian.

Fossil located in Spencer's Ditch, on south side of Dunston Road. Fossil was discovered approx. 300 feet south of the road, on the East Bank of the ditch, and approximately 2/3 of the way up the slope from the bottom of the ditch. Fossil layer is located within the lower Gammon Ferruginous Member of the Pierre Shale. GPS coordinates based on CFDC GPS Unit "A", using the WGS 84 navagation system.
