Karen is a multi-discipline artist that primarily works with oil and acrylics on canvas. Her work has appeared in two galleries and she has been sought out by collectors and enthusiasts for specially commissioned pieces. She continues to embrace new disciplines and push her boundaries artistically.
I wanted to incorporate part of the scene of the life of a mosasaur so started painting the night sky, but as I went I realized that the brush was creating striations like you would find in layers of rock. It seemed to work as I added specific brush strokes to include more layers, then highlighted the tips and valleys (and plaster cracks) as if they were rock cracks, with the teeth representing jewels and the black underlay as coal. I then coated the whole piece to feel like bone, all of which can be found in the various layers of rocks (in real life). This was super fun to do and I’d love to it again!
