2020 Summer Crew Interview: Tessa Warkentine

Position in the museum: Young Programs Coordinator

Tessa was part of the Canadian Fossil Discovery team last year as a Field Technician! She rejoined us this year as being part of the Young Programs Coordinator team.

Are you in school?

Yes, I’m at the University of Manitoba in the Faculty of Science.

What do you like to do for fun when you aren’t at the museum?

Right now, in the summer, I like to work in the garden and ride my horse Doc.

When you were younger did you ever want to work in a museum?

No, but now I love working in the museum. I like that I get to learn so much while working here.

If a magical mosasaur gave you 3 wishes…what would you wish for?

My three wishes can be summed up as I don’t want to die by a marine reptile…but if you want the specifics…I wish to not be in the presence of a living mosasaur; not to be eaten by a plesisosaur, and not to run (or swim) into a magical xiphactinus.

How would your friends describe you?

I’ve asked them this before and they said fun and silly.

What is one thing you could not go a day without?

Breakfast otherwise I’ll be really cranky.

What was your favourite subject in school?

Science!

If it were possible, would you own a pet dinosaur or another fossilized creature? If so which one and why?

Archelon because they are super cool and I’m scared of normal birds and dinosaurs.

What’s your favourite season?

Summer, obviously.

Are you the most organized in the office?

Not really, just keeping it together.

If someone was to look for you in the museum where would they find you?

In the kids activity room! Not covered in glitter though. Yet.
